Malawi Council for the Handicapped (MACOHA) welcomes Mr. George Chiusiwa who joins as Executive Director for the Council. Mr. Chiusiwa is a Human Rights, Governance and Policy Practitioner with a vast experience in the disability sector.
Mr. Chiusiwa holds a Master of Laws in International and Comparative Disability Law and Policy from Galway University, Ireland and a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences from the University of Malawi. He brings with him 12 years’ experience in social policy, disability rights and governance. He has worked with various organisations including the Malawi Human Rights Commission where he worked in the directorate of disability and elderly rights, the Ministry of Local Government, the National Statistical Office, the Ministry of Education as well as different organisations of persons with disabilities.
Mr. Chiusiwa has been instrumental in development of disability policies in Malawi including the National Disability Mainstreaming Strategy, National Action Plan on Persons with Disabilities, National Disability Communications Strategy and the Persons with Disabilities Bill.
Mr. Chiusiwa is passionate and determined to work with all stakeholders in the disability sector and ensure that all persons with disabilities in Malawi benefit from various interventions in accordance with stipulations in the Malawi Constitution and international legal instruments such as the Equalization of Opportunities for Persons with Disabilities. He will ensure that MACOHA strives to achieve the Malawi 2063 development agenda on disability inclusive development.
