With funding from CBM (Christian Blind Mission), MACOHA is implementing the Enhancing Disability Inclusive Disaster Risk Reduction Capacities and Strengthening Resilience against Climate-Related Disasters Project in partnership with Churches Action in Relief and Development (CARD) and Federation of Disability Organisations in Malawi (FEDOMA).
A three-day training and mentoring program for national state actors was conducted at Linde Hotel in Mponela. The training aimed to: Share knowledge on the concept of disability and promote disability inclusion in Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR), understand how a changing climate may affect DRR, Impart knowledge about global guidelines for action
In his opening remarks, MACOHA's Executive Director, George Chiusiwa, emphasized the importance of inclusive disaster risk reduction measures. "As national actors, it is our responsibility to ensure that disaster risk reduction measures are inclusive and take into account the unique needs and vulnerabilities of persons with disabilities."
The training had attracted participants from various sectors, including: government agencies, disability organizations, civil society organinations and international organizations.
The objective of the training was to enhance the capacity of national state actors to develop and implement disability-inclusive DRR strategies.
By promoting disability inclusion in disaster risk reduction, the project aimed to reduce the vulnerability of persons with disabilities to climate-related disasters and enhance their resilience.
