In Salima district, a remarkable journey of hope, resilience and community empowerment is unfolding through the Community Based Inclusive Development (CBID) programme, under MACODA.
This innovative initiative is making a profound difference in the lives of families with children living with disabilities, offering them a pathway to break free from the persistent cycle of poverty and social exclusion. Central to the program’s success is the establishment of the Parent Support Group, formed in 2024 with 15 committed members who share a common goal of improving their families’ well-being. These members received livestock such as goats, chickens, and cattle as a means to boost their income-generating capacity thereby promoting sustainable livelihoods within their communities. The programme’s unique pass-on approach encourages each group member to share livestock with new members as they develop, creating a ripple effect of economic empowerment.
On July 14, 2025, the group celebrated a significant milestone as members successfully passed on their livestock to five new families, extending the benefits of the programme to more households in need. This act of generosity was met with overwhelming joy and gratitude from the new recipients, who expressed optimism that these animals would help them secure food, generate income, and address urgent needs such as education, healthcare, and shelter.
As the CBID programme continues its expansion, more families are gaining hope, resilience, and independence. This community-driven approach demonstrates that with targeted support, solidarity and shared responsibility, communities can build inclusive environments where children with disabilities are valued, and families can thrive.
