In a bold step towards promoting environmental sustainability, the Malawi Council for Disability Affairs (MACODA) conducted a tree planting exercise in Magomero, Chiradzulu.
As part of the campaign, the Council planted 700 tree seedlings at its Kamuzu Vocational Rehabilitation Training Centre (KVRTC) orchard to combat deforestation and mitigate the effects of climate change.
In his remarks MACODA Director General, George Chiusiwa said the initiative is part of MACODA’s efforts to support Malawi’s national afforestation efforts, which aim to restore degraded areas and enhance resilience against climate change-related challenges such as floods and droughts.
He further emphasized environmental conservation as a collective effort and called on communities and stakeholders to take ownership of environmental conservation by planting and nurturing trees in their areas.
This tree-planting initiative by MACODA serves as a powerful example of how organizations, even those focused on specific social issues, can contribute significantly to environmental sustainability. Their proactive approach not only addresses the urgent need for reforestation but also inspires community involvement, fostering a collective responsibility for the preservation of Malawi's natural resources and a more resilient future for all.
