MACODA's Women and Children's Programmes section recently organized a vital half-day stakeholder engagement session in Blantyre, bringing together caregivers of children with disabilities and organizations dedicated to children's welfare. The meeting, held at MACODA Head Office, was a crucial step in MACODA's ongoing mission to promote and protect the rights and freedoms of persons with disabilities, with a particular focus on children.
The session promoted a collaborative environment with participation from prominent organisations including the Joshua Foundation, SOS Children's Villages, Parents of Disabled Children Association of Malawi (PODCAM), and the Chisomo Association of Children with Disabilities. Representatives from the Blantyre Social Welfare Office were also present, underscoring the multi-sectoral approach to disability programmes and services.
During the engagement, MACODA Children and Women programmes officer, Alexander Sinoya highlighted MACODA's specific programmatic focus on children with disabilities, which spans five key thematic areas of health, education, livelihood, social inclusion and empowerment. This engagement was designed precisely to unite organisations that share similar missions, creating a platform to share best practices, explore collaborative opportunities and collectively enhance the impact on the lives of children in Blantyre.
Among other things, together with parents, the organisations presented ways to enhance collaboration and coordination among caregivers and organisations working on children's welfare in Blantyre, shared best practices and innovative approaches in supporting children's rights and well-being and most importantly identified key challenges and actionable strategies for improving the implementation of children's programmes.
The meeting served as a reflection to the shared commitment of all stakeholders in addressing the needs of children with disabilities and strengthening support systems within the Blantyre community.
